Balsam, founder and president of Standard Aromatics, Inc.; B.A. Columbia College, 1948, with additional work in Chemical Engineering and Business Administration; member of the American Society of Perfumers and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. Edward Sagarin, Ph.D., New York Univeristy, 1966; during his career in cosmetic and perfume industry, was associated with Givaudan Corporation and then with Standard Aromatics; author of The Science and Art of Perfumery; a few years after publication of the first edition of Cosmetics: Science and Technology, returned to school to study sociology, and obtained degree; has written extensively in sociology, particularly on crime and deviant behavior, presently teaching in that field.
